Today was pretty special.
In class, Sister Hall spoke to us about London before the war, and London after the war. She said that, of course, many people had felt the impact of the war. But that Great Britain, in particular, felt such tremendous pain and sorrow. It's hard to explain, but I remember how I felt while Sister Hall was explaining to us what it was like for these people. She had scheduled time for all of us to go to a museum all about the war, taking as much time as we needed.
We then took off on our own to the Imperial War Museum. Tyrell, Liza, and I went to Leicester Square first to purchase tickets to Wicked for that night. Then we went to a restaurant for some lunch at a place right across the street from the museum. When we finally walked inside, we spent some time walking around the ground floor and the first floor. It wasn't anything particularly moving for me, but then we saw that there was a floor completely dedicated to the Holocaust. I've always been drawn to that event, even as horrible as it was. The three of us went up to that floor and began to wander. I couldn't hold back the tears as I read about real people who were being exterminated, literally. It was very sobering.
Afterwards, we went home for a quick bite to eat. Then Liza and I went to the Apollo Victoria Theatre to see Wicked. It was the second time for me, and the first time for Liza (at least in London). And of course, Willemijn did not disappoint!
Here are some pictures from the Imperial War Museum. We weren't allowed to take pictures inside the Holocaust floor, so these are only from the ground and first floors.
